If you want to create a comparative year when starting your accounting, you must first create the previous financial year (the current financial year minus one) and create a journal entry with the balances for the comparable accounts in the balance sheet and the income statement.

Creating a comparative year

Settings → Accounting → Financial Year → Create New Financial Year

See the example below where accounting starts in 2026 and the comparison year used is 2025.

The budget can be entered under Registry → Chart of Accounts → Budget.

Setting opening balances

Create journal entries for the start of the accounting year using the balances for the comparable balance sheet and income statement accounts.

The opening balances can also be entered manually directly into each account’s Debit and Credit columns RegistryChart of Accounts Opening Balances:

Transferring balances

Once the necessary amounts have been entered in the comparison year’s data, transfer them from the comparison year to the current financial year:

Now you can start accounting for the year 2026.

When you later create a new financial year, transfer the opening balances as usual via Registers → Chart of Accounts → Opening balances.
